So many movies, so little time. But it’s okay because TCG has got you covered. Here are our Top 5 movies that can’t be missed this month. Check your local theatre the week of the release for movie times. You won’t want to miss these films on opening night.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Marvel. Chris Evans. Scarlett Johansson. I think this pick speaks for itself. This year’s first block buster is definitely a must-see. I’m not going to say anything else because if this film is not on your watch list for this month then I’m afraid we can no longer be friends.

Afflicted

I’m not a huge horror movie fan. Actually, I hate horror movies. But if you’re a scary movie junkie, then this film will be perfect for you. It’s a fresh take on the genre that will surely satisfy all your scary movie needs. Two friends go on an adventure of a life time and document their journey. But when they meet a strange Parisian girl one night, everything spirals out of control and it’s all downhill from there.

The Double

Doppelganger movies seem to be all the rage lately. If you saw last month’s pick Enemy, this is going to be a great follow up. Jesse Eisenberg plays Simon James and James Simon; to say the two are polar opposites would be an understatement. Both men are vying for the same woman, Hannah, played by Mia Wasikowska. Understandably, things start to get extremely complicated as James slowly starts to take over Simon’s life.

The Railway Man

Nothing like a good ugly cry to start the weekend am I right? Based on a true story, this film about suffering and forgiveness is sure to tug on all of your heart strings. As a young soldier, Eric Lomax was brutally tortured and forced to work on the Thai-Burma Railway during WWII. Years later, the psychological damage is almost too much for him to handle and he decides to confront his cruelest captor, Japanese officer Takashi Nagase. It’s a war story, but it tells a tale about much more than just that.

Transcendence

Christopher Nolan is back as the executive producer of this new sci-fi film starring fan favourite Johnny Depp. Depp’s character studies artificial intelligence and is hell bent on technological singularity. That is, he’s trying to flip the world upside down and change the entire course of civilization. If Nolan’s other work is any indicator, this movie will not disappoint.

About Debbie Wang

Full-time student and part-time couch potato. I live for all things entertainment and if I don't respond to your texts within the hour I am either at the movies, too engrossed in my book, or taking a nap. My love for Wes Anderson grows everyday and I'm convinced that Audrey Hepburn is the definition of perfection. Don't ask me what my favourite movie is (or favourite anything for that matter) because I most definitely will have an existential crisis.
