Tea Detoxes

Occasionally, our body gets lazy and decides to take a vacation from doing its everyday functioning. As a result, we end up feeling tired, sluggish, bloated and moody. Many herbs, typically used as spices in dishes can also be steeped as tea, providing the body with many health and detox benefits. Unlike most tea detoxes that are harsh on the system and will likely leave you running to the bathroom when you least expect it, these gentle herbs will help naturally sooth the stomach and get the body moving again.
Cayenne Pepper Tea

This tea has a cleansing effect on the body, revving up your metabolism and gives the body energy throughout the day. It has a strong taste so adding lemon or honey to enhance flavor is recommended. Add cayenne pepper to your dishes to spice them up and further the health benefits.

Chicory Tea

This detoxing tea also speeds up your metabolism by stimulating digestive juices that help break down food. Drink a cup of this tea 30 minutes before a meal for better digestion.

Fenugreek Tea

Feeling bloated, gassy and sluggish? Fenugreek improves digestion and discomfort, helping your body to get things passing smoothly. The tea bags contain fenugreek seeds that are steeped with hot water. Drink this daily to keep your body flowing properly.
Ginger Tea
Not the pink and white stuff that comes with sushi. Ginger root (a hard root with tough beige skin) is very cleansing when brewed. Despite the strong taste, this tea has an alkalizing effect, gently cleansing the body. Add this to your diet daily for energy and better digestion. Either purchase ginger root tea bags, or simply steep a piece directly from the root and add ground ginger to smoothies or dishes.

Green Tea

Almost everyone knows that green tea is good for you, they may not know why but they have guaranteed heard it somewhere. Green tea is filled with antioxidants that fight toxins and free radicals in the body. It is proven that drinking one or more cups of green tea a day provides optimal health. Once the toxins are removed, the body can rid itself of extra (and probably unwanted) weight.
Turmeric Tea

Typically used in dishes, this herb can also be brewed as tea to help stimulate your liver and gallbladder to create more bile. Bile is necessary to eliminate toxins and ensure proper digestion. Ironically, many people do not produce enough of it. When the body creates more bile, it flushes toxins out of the liver and body. Try steeping ginger and turmeric for a better tasting tea for proper digestive functioning.

Sometimes what we put into our mouth has nothing to do with it. To keep it simple, when we are under pressure or highly stressed, the body tends to respond to regulating factors such as hormones and adrenalin and pays less attention to proper digestion and elimination. This leaves us with all the symptoms listed above, only adding to the initial underlying cause. There’s nothing worse than being under stress, having a lack of energy AND not being able to fit into your favorite clothes like you normally do. Whether you’ve been splurging on your diet or have a lot going on, these teas will give your body a gentle kick to help things function again. Try them all and see which appeal to you and try to drink them daily. Tea also contributes to your water consumption (provided it’s caffeine free) and will hydrate your body, helping it detox.
