Modern Man x Surmesur Event
Humans are a social species by nature, and it is no secret that we fashion folk seek to take advantage of this. If there is one thing the style-savvy crowd adores, it’s revelling in a fabulous night of food, fun and mingling. Walking around Toronto’s Queen Street East area a couple of nights ago, it was hard not to notice the on-stream of good-looking gents exhibiting some serious swagger. From colourful collared shirts to quirky bow-ties, the city’s fashion-conscious were dressed in their Wednesday best, looking forward to attending what promised to be an Instagram-worthy evening at Surmesur hosted by Modern Man.
As the first event in their three-part ‘X’ series, Modern Man pulled out all stops to offer a hip and participatory experience, curated by modern men for modern men. Each guest was made to feel like VIP material, stepping out onto a miniature red carpet upon arrival and posing for photo-ops once inside. By day, Surmesur serves Toronto’s downtown core as the go-to place for custom-made and tasteful menswear. For this classy evening affair, the team transformed the store by dimming the lights and inserting some unforgettable additions: a live DJ’s beats injected the entire space with a fresh rhythm and a well-stocked open bar gave guests the chance to taste some quality liquors (the emphasis being on an ever-chic selection from St. Rémy Martin).
Both giddy with excitement and slightly camera shy during the process, male attendees lined up to indulge in a luxe and complimentary shave at the one-of-a-kind grooming station positioned towards the back of the store; given my lack of facial hair, I was just a tad disappointed to be unable to partake in the pampering! Fortunately, any hard feelings soon slipped away as I was offered an epic variety of savoury hors d’oeuvres, the bite-size latkes and miniature hamburgers being the most mouthwatering and noteworthy!
