Cabbagetown Brew
Cabbagetown Brew is situated in a charming old Victorian row house in the heart of Cabbagetown. From the street, it can easily be overlooked but the sparkling chandelier in the window will definitely catch your eye. The lack of a large sign gives it a touch of mystery. Look for the small sign placed out on the sidewalk – it advertises daily specials.
The atmosphere is very European and modern, yet cozy. The décor is very polished with a marble counter and bar area, large comfy wingback chairs, and exposed brick. This Espresso Boutique is run by two friendly brothers who provide excellent service and make you feel at home. Conversing with them was like conversing with old friends and they emphasized how much they want the shop to feel like a home and a place for you to come and call your own. They even gave me a mini tutorial on crafting a latte.
The menu offering is Italian – Panini sandwiches, Gelato, Italian sodas, and Cannoli are all available. They also offer a selection of fresh bread, olive oil, and Italian Panettone. I started with an organic Sumatra coffee which was a dark roast with a bold taste. I also crafted a creamy latte with a satisfying coffee flavor. I had a bowl of minestrone soup alongside a Ham n Cheese Croissantwich served with fresh olives. They used only fresh ingredients and you can taste the difference. The soup was hearty and fresh while the croissantwich was meaty, buttery and flaky goodness. All the pastries come from Petite Thuet which is an amazing patisserie here in Toronto so they are definitely worth trying. I’m a big fan of anything peanut butter so I tried the peanut butter brownie and I was in heaven. Yum!
Being a resident of Cabbagetown myself, I am so happy that our neighborhood has this new offering with such a reasonably priced menu. All in all, Cabbagetown is a family friendly, family oriented, fun and elegant café which I would encourage you to check it out. The food is Italian, fresh, and unique.
