2011 Encruzado, Quinta das Marias

Dão, Portugal

Yet another wonderful and relatively inexpensive white wine here made of indigenous Encruzado grapes grown in the beautiful Dão valley; sampled it alongside a very good Saint – Aubin 1er cru blanc and there were similarities mouthfill and minerality – wise between the two, although the one from Burgundy almost three times the cost; pear and tropical fruit flavours intermingle with savoury – yeasty – spicy accents; medium to full – weight with firm acidity and a persistent, long and clean finish; available @lcbo Vintages for $16.95; makes a great pairing with herb – roasted chicken, pork roast, or soft ripened artisanal cheeses.
