2011 Hillier Blanc, Keint – He

Prince Edward County

Blend of a red grape, Pinot Meunier, and Chardonnay; you get dried apricot, white lotus spice and moist limestone notes on the nose; medium to full – weight and round, yet with firm acidity and a long – lasting and savoury honeysuckle – flavoured finish; intriguing, to be sure; a perfect candidate for any wine bar’s by – the – glass sector; as for food, try it with roasted turkey, or pheasant, rabbit, or pork ribs with apricot – pineapple sauce; $28 and available in Toronto via Mr. Charming, Nicholas Pearce; nicholaspearceselections.com

2011 Pinot Noir ‘Réserve du Domaine’ Domaine Queylus

Niagara Peninsula

Bright, pure and elegant; red cherry and floral, medium bodied and crisp with really delicate tannins; but its Pommard – like texture and depth I admire the most; great length here that comes with mineral overtones; terroir – driven Pinot precisely capturing the vintage’s character, the vineyard specific area’s nuances and the winemaker’s puritanism; I doubt that you can find a quality – wise more superior Pinot for $45; lifford.com
