Crucial Commandments For Long Hair

If you want envy-inducing, Tumblr-worthy hair, you will certainly need to follow these crucial hair commandments. Take each rule as a tiny promise you’re making to your mane in order to keep it healthy, long and gorgeous.

Thou Shalt Not Fry

Damaged hair will not grow: that is a sad little fact of life. If you’re anything like me, you may only think your hair looks good after mad amounts of heat styling. Curlers and irons and blow dryers, oh my! You’re unfortunately not doing yourself any favours. These instruments are counter productive, so try to back away from them if ultra long hair is your goal.

Thou Shalt Not Dye

Similar to heat styling, regular dyeing is not conducive to hair growth. If you’re one of the abundance of women who have been dyeing their hair regularly since they were teenagers, it’s time to rethink that habit (if you want long, healthy hair that is). Tip: to maintain your colour, try to keep the dye job to just your regrowth, leaving the rest of your hair untouched beyond the original colour job. Try to avoid harsh colours, or any shade that’s over 3 shades away from your natural colour. And stay away from ombré, which literally sucks the life out of your hair. (Note: my hair is ombré, and it’s very, very thirsty).

Thou Shalt Become Acquainted With Moroccan Oil

This stuff is a miracle. Application to wet or dry hair, with extra focus on the ends, will bring your locks back to life.

Thou Shalt Not Wash

I know this one seems a little strange, but you’re doing more damage to your hair than you think you are by washing it daily. Your scalp’s natural oils are stripped away when you shampoo, and that’s not a good thing. If you’re unlike me (I wash my hair once a week and love it) and think you need to wash your hair daily, give every other day a try. Is your scalp particularly oily? Invest in dry shampoo. It will become your best friend.

Thou Shalt Take Your Vitamins

Some of the secrets to long hair take place nowhere near your scalp. A healthy diet that includes plenty of iron, vitamins D and B complex, and zinc will add to the lusciousness of your hair. Try adding more avocado and egg to your diet. Yum!
