HarbourKIDS: Monster
HarbourKIDS: Monster
Saturday October 8, 2011-Monday October 10, 2011
11 a.m.-5 p.m.
To get ready for Halloween , Harbourfront Centre presents HarbourKIDS: Monster, a FREE three-day festival creatively investigating the scary, funny and exciting potential of monsters. Between Saturday October 8 and Monday October 10, families will descend upon Toronto’s downtown waterfront to explore ideas about “monster” through a wide range of performances, crafts and activities.
Highlights of the festival include:
The Monster Run: Toronto performance company Mammalian Diving Reflex’s participatory production Monster Makers runs Oct 13-16, but audiences get a sneak peek when the title character takes visitors on a trip through the Harbourfront Centre site. Kids, the experts, guide him around the area and help teach him how to be a monster. Daily at 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.
Gulliver: Gulliver, based on the eponymous character from Gulliver’s Travels, is an combination puppet/robot who invites kids and parents to help him sing, dance, tell jokes, and create a story. After the show, audience members get a behind-the-scenes glimpse at Gulliver’s inner workings. Daily, 12:30 p.m., 1:30 p.m., 3 p.m.
Volume: The pre-teen rock trio will blow your mind with their energetic covers of head-thrashing, guitar smashing classics. Daily at 12 p.m. & 2:30 p.m.
Movie Monster: Children and adults work together to prepare, and star in, their very own monster movies.
Garden Jane’s Monster Mash: Play with your food, just like a monster, with food from nearby farms to mash and munch.
Media preview opportunities are available for Gulliver and Movie Monster from 5:00 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 7.
Interviews are available upon request.
All events take place at Harbourfront Centre, 235 Queens Quay West, Toronto.
