2011 Gigondas ‘Domaine Grand Romane’ Pierre Amadieu

Southern Rhone, France

Blend of (mostly) Grenache and Syrah grown in vineyards with 400 meters altitude above sea; the estate’s ‘cuvée prestige’ made of grapes off 50 year old vines and aged in new oak barrels; aroma and flavour nuances of blueberry, cardamom, pink peppercorn and licorice; full bodied, juicy, grapey – vinous, real and sexy; simply delicious; available @lcbo $27 and worth each penny, buy two bottles and thank me later; Vintages also has in stock this winery’s 2010 ‘Le Pas De L’Aigle’ Gigondas, yet another full, well balanced, notably fresh and attractive Mother’s Day option.

2012 Chardonnay, Pahlmeyer

Sonoma Coast, California

BBB = big, bold and beautiful, hard not to like this Chardonnay; tropical, vanilla and buttery, with a creamy texture and plenty of ripe white – fleshed exotic fruit, pecan and butterscotch notes; not shy in alcohol neither, but somehow all of its elements fall in harmony (and don’t lack freshness) over the softly lingering spicy citrus finish; and also not shy when comes to price tag…in Vintages @lcbo

2006 Brut ‘6 Cépages’ Moutard Père et Fils

Champagne, France

Vintage Champagne at its best and I have rarely scored a wine this high in recent memory; golden – coloured with really tiny, many and active bubbles; broad and opulent over the palate with apples, citrus, white chocolate, honey and toasty accents; a luxurious mousse and lively freshness round out this truly impressive and pure Champagne; I find its price justified and know that many of the more recognizable labels cost twice as much, at least, and almost surely won’t deliver the quality of this; in @lcbo still, if you hurry…
